The purpose of this activity is to make generalisations from the primary research that was conducted at the city.
Quantitative Research:
Question: Would you want the harbour waterways to be opened up to the public?
Answers: Eight out of ten people said that they would like the harbour waterways to be opened up to the public, two out of ten people said that they wouldn't like the harbour waterways to be opened up to the public.
Generalisations: 80% of people from Sydney would like the harbour waterways to be opened up to the public, meaning that in order to make Rozelle Bay successful and seen to be a more desireable location, its waterways should be opened up to the public. By extension, it could be concluded that people may want the waterways to be opened for their own use, so new and environmentally friendly ways to use the harbour should be brainstormed.
Question: Would you be willing to pay more money for a residency that is on the waterfront, and is around recreational areas?
Answers: Nine out of ten people said that they would pay more for a recidency that is around recreational areas and/or is on a waterfront, one out of ten people said that they wouldn't pay more.
Generalisations: 90% of people from Sydney said that they'd pay more for a residency that is around recreational areas and/or is on a waterfront, meaning for our residency area to be worth more, we should add more recreational areas and have houses/apartments near the bay. This means to increase the diversity of the area (by creating luxurious living spaces) waterfront views and luxurious facilities should be provided.
Question: Would you like the harbour waterways to be used for recreational purposes?
Answers: Seven out of ten people said that they would like the harbour waterways to be used for recreaional purposes, three out of ten people said that they wouldn't like the harbour waterways to be used for recreational purposes.
Generalisations: 70% of people from Sydney said that they would like harbour waterways to be used for recreatoinal purposes, meaning that in order to make our harbour areas more appealing, we must use our waterways for recreational purposes (i.e boating). From this, it can be determined that were are going to have to look for how we will account for this environmentally, and create ways to combat the water pollution that may be caused by this.
Question: Do you think the city is environmentally sustainable?
Answers: Five out of ten people said that they thought Sydney City was environmentally sustainable, five out of ten people said that they didn't think that Sydney City was environmentally sustainable.
Generalisations: 50% of people said that they didn't think that Sydney City is environmentally sustainable, meaning that in our area we need to be able to identify which areas we are able to make more environmentally sustainable. From this, the area will be more liveable as it will be a sustainable area where people can live for longer amounts of time.
Question: Would you live in a high-rise building?
Answers: Five out of ten people said that they would live in a high-rise building, five out of ten people said that they wouldn't live in a high-rise building.
Generalisations: 50% of people from Sydney City wouldn't live in a high-rise building and 50% would, meaning that to improve liveability, we must have diverse living spaces. This means our area could have high-rise apartments to cater to the growing population of Sydney, which is positive. However, to make our area appeal to a variety of people, other living spaces must be incorporated.
Qualitative Research:
Question: If the harbour waterways were opened up to the public, what would you want the harbour to be used for?
Answer: "I think, if it's more public use, more use for boats or other water activities."
Generalisations: The boating facilities that we already have should be expanded and used more because the public wants to use the water more for boating in regard to recreational purposes. This, by extension, could provide new opportunities for new businesses to start in our area which would boost liveability by providing more recreational activities for residents and also increase economic growth in our area by providing new jobs and income.
Question: How do you think that unconventional living spots (such as ones near a highway, the water etc) can be transformed into places where people want to buy residencies?
Answer: "I think it's all about what you choose to surround that area wth - no one wants to hear a highway or noise, but if you find ways to make those places less noisy and surround them with more wanted facilities - that's the key."
Generalisations: We have to be innovative in how we redesign our living area, because even if it's an unconventional residential area, if we make it appealing in other respects (our facilities, living spaces) it can still be a very appealing place for the public. For example, as our area is near a highway, we would have to work around that and find ways to block out the noise, and find ways to make up for that in our living spaces or recreational activities.
Question: Would you be willing to stay in a hotel like this which is in/on the water? Why or why not?
MAKING SENSE OF IT ALL

Answer: "Yes, because it looks interesting and is different to every other hotel I've seen."
Generalisations: People like things that are new and interesting - which is usually a given - and would find Rozelle Bay to be a successful commercial area if there is something that makes it a unique destination (i.e a common theme among Rozelle, and some sort of new technology that you couldn't find anywhere else). Again, this means that we have to be innovative with our transport, recreational spaces and living areas, and show that the redesign was necessary to add something completely new to Sydney, instead of just adding some apartments to the area.
